Over the past year China has continued its strong economic growth and has emerged as one of the world's strongest markets. Demand for high technology goods and services is rising, and by the end of the decade China is predicted to rank third behind only that of the US and Japan.
The IBM brand is widely recognized in China and the STG market share remains strong. To capitalize on these and to position IBM for continued growth in the emerging market in China, STG is establishing an organizational structure in Greater China. The new organization will focus on development and innovation, establishing strategic alliances in China and delivering value to IBM customers worldwide.
Cheng-Fong Shih has been named vice president, Greater China Group STG Development, reporting to Henry Chow, Chairman IBM Greater China Group. Mr. Shih also will receive functional direction STG's executive leadership team. Mr. Shih will work closely with Josephine Cheng, IBM Fellow and Vice President, China Development Laboratory to continue to drive organizational efficiencies. Previously, Mr. Shih was vice president of technology and customer quality, maintenance and technical support, Global Technology Services.
"The formation of the Greater China System Technology Laboratory underscores STG’s commitment to become a model of the Globally Integrated Enterprise within IBM,” said Rod Adkins, senior vice president, development & manufacturing, Systems & Technology Group. “We are leveraging the skills and expertise available worldwide to deliver value and innovation to our clients, and to capture new business opportunity in growing geographies such as China.”
Mr. Shih's organization has been aligned to be consistent with STG worldwide development organizations. Reporting to him are:
-- Xie Dong, who will continue to lead Global Engineering Solutions delivery for STG as Executive, GES China Delivery. Xie Dong manages a growing team focused on developing custom component and systems solutions for an increasing number of customers.
-- Jane Xu, Distinguished Engineer, who will continue her leadership role for STG in Greater China focusing in STG software and development of complete solutions for China customers
-- Brent Beardsley, Distinguished Engineer, who joins STG in Greater China bringing with him deep technical knowledge in the area of storage and stong innovation skills
-- Paul Lee, who has been named program director, STG Enterprise Systems for Greater China Group. He will be responsible for STG initiatives for client support, storage, enterprise and cross-platform software in China.
-- Mark Wiltse, who has been named director, STG Modular Systems & Blade Development for GCG. He will focus on growing STG's ability to develop hardware and software solutions inside Greater China with maximum efficiency by utilizing development partnerships in both China and Taiwan.
Mr. Shih will act as program manager, Strategic Alliances, until a principal is named.
